DIY Pumpkin Carving: My first 3D carving steps

El año que viene si Emma esta mas tiempo en la escuela podré de verdad lanzarme a hacer 3D carving. Este año encontré un par de tecnicas aparentemente sencillas para dar más profundidad al diseño normal. 

Para el primero de ellos, además de un kit sencillo de hacer carving, se necesita una cookie, ice-cream scoop y un speedbor (el mio era 9/16). Algunas scoop funcionan mejor q otras por tener el borde más afilado. Por ejemplo descubrimos q las de helado suelen ser mas afiladas porque al fin y al cabo el helado es duro. En cambio las que son para fruta o cookies no lo eran tanto. La calabaza es dura y puede ser tricky sacar un scoop limpio y pasable. Nosotros tuvimos q hacer varios intentos. Despues de sacar el scoop, se usa el speedbor para hacer el interior del ojo.

 Para aguantar los ojos use palillos, skewers y alambre por dentro. Esta vez el agujero para vaciar y limpiar la calabaza la hice por detras como sugerian en algunos sitios.

 Para el segundo diseño hice un cerebro con la herramienda de pelar y alguna herramienta de hacer clay para trazar las lineas.

Para hacer el slime acabe usando Borax porque el producto de Elmer's Magic Liquid se acabo y la verdad es demasiado fuerte la reaccion y siempre me acaba quedando demasiado poco slimey pero sirvio.

Algunos consejos q he encontrado para q las pumpkins duren mas tiempo en buen estado

1. Carve pumpkin as desired. 
2. Submerge the pumpkin in a large bucket with water and 2/3 cup bleach. Allow it to soak for 2 hours at minimum, up to 24 hours to allow bleach solution to kill andy microorganisms on the pumpkin’s surfaces. (Keep away from pets and children obviously.) 
3. Coat the cut layers and inside of the pumpkin with a thin layer of petroleum jelly. NOTE: THIS IS FLAMMABLE SO USE A BATTERY OPERATED LIGHT NOT A CANDLE INSIDE OF YOUR JACK O’LANTERN!!! The petroleum jelly helps seal in the moisture and keep out the bacteria that can cause your pumpkin to dry out or rot. Spray the pumpkin daily with a spray bottle of water with a few drops of bleach to help keep it moist and clean. 
4. Store the pumpkin in a plastic bag in the fridge at night if possible or keep out of direct sunlight in a cool, dry place for best results. 
5. If it starts to wilt, try to revive it by submerging it in an ice bath for a few hours. This works best when you catch it early. Dry thoroughly to prevent mold. 

Just to reiterate, NO CANDLES inside the pumpkin if you use the petroleum jelly. Honestly, it’s best even if you don’t to always use a flickering battery operated light instead, real candles heat up and dry out the inside of the pumpkin, shortening its lifespan. Plus, it can be a fire hazard and nobody needs that!
